(P2) Bridging Forensic Nursing and the Opioid Crisis: An Educational Approach to Safety and Care

This poster highlights a forensic nursing education initiative addressing the intersection of opioid use disorder and victimization. Developed with the Office of Opioid Safety, it demonstrates how trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices empower nurses to identify risks, enhance care, and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations during the opioid epidemic.

Learning Outcomes:

Increased knowledge about:
  • the relationship between opioid use disorder and victimization, including human trafficking and intimate partner violence, and identify associated risk factors in vulnerable populations.
  • the application of trauma-informed care principles and evidence-based strategies to improve forensic nursing interventions for patients impacted by the opioid crisis.
  • evaluating the effectiveness of multidisciplinary collaboration and resource integration in addressing the needs of patients at the intersection of opioid use and victimization.
