In Japan, “Medical Treatment and Supervision Act” governs medical care and supervision to mentally disordered people who have committed serious criminal offenses. This presentation reviews the current status and issues of forensic psychiatric nursing practice in Japan, with a focus on the inpatient stage.

  • the current forensic psychiatry treatment system in Japan.
  • the role of the forensic psychiatry nurse in the multidisciplinary team for inpatient treatment of mentally disordered offenders.
