(Repeated Wednesday, August 20, at 1:30 pm.) Forensic nurses play a pivotal role in supporting individuals impacted by trauma, but the emotional toll of this work can be overwhelming, especially in this time of collective political and financial uncertainty. This session will explore vicarious trauma—the psychological and emotional effects of exposure to others' traumatic experiences—and its unique challenges for forensic nurses. More importantly, it will focus on building resilience, maintaining hope, enhancing commitment, and reinforcing a sense of purpose. The goal is not only to cope with these challenges but to thrive despite them.
Learning Outcomes:
Increased knowledge about:
how to recognize the early signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma.
practical, evidence-based techniques for building personal and professional resilience.
building sustainable coping mechanisms and support systems to prevent burnout and promote long-term career satisfaction.
