Using research, images & video to explore the mysterious world of virginity, this presentation will assist clinicians and other MDT members to identify & combat longstanding & erroneous beliefs about virginity & to better understand how this construct can impact the course of CSA investigations.

After participating in this activity, attendees will be able to correctly identify the primary female genital structures and explain the difference between genital and vaginal penetration.
After participating in this activity, attendees will be able to name at least two ways the construct of virginity can adversely impact a child abuse investigation and how clinicians can combat these pervasive erroneous beliefs.
After participating in this activity, attendees will be able to identify three ways that a medical examination is beneficial to children reporting sexual abuse, even when there are no “findings.”
