Nancy Downing is a professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center College of Nursing in Fort Worth where she leads a grant-funded forensic nursing education program and coordinates the MSN Practice Innovation program. She received her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Iowa in 2010. As a practicing forensic nurse for over 20 years providing care to patients across the lifespan who have experienced interpersonal violence, her research is dedicated to improving health outcomes following sexual violence. She serves as Vice Chair of the Forensic Nursing Subcommittee of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science developing standards for forensic nursing science. She is a former President of the International Association of Forensic Nurses and served four terms on the Texas Forensic Science Commission. In 2019, she was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.
