Professional Biography: Dr. Kimberly Holka, DNP, MSA, MSN, RN, CNE, PHNA-BC
Dr. Kimberly Holka is a Special Instructor and RN-BSN Completion Sequence Track Coordinator at Oakland University School of Nursing. A passionate leader in public health and emergency preparedness, Dr. Holka combines academic excellence with real-world service to improve health outcomes and strengthen community resilience.
She earned a BSN from Nazareth College, an MSA from Central Michigan University, an MSN from Oakland University, and a DNP from Case Western Reserve University. She is a board-certified Advanced Public Health Nurse and a Certified Nurse Educator, with specialized training in Basic and Advanced Disaster Life Support.
Dr. Holka has worked extensively with regional health departments, first responders, and hospitals on mass casualty training, infectious disease response, and emergency preparedness. She serves as a Government Liaison for the American Red Cross (ARC) on the Region 2 North Advisory Planning Board and volunteers with ARC Disaster Health Services, providing clinical support to communities affected by disasters, including during Hurricane Irma. She is also an active member of the Macomb County Health Department Medical Reserve Corps and the Michigan Mortuary Response Team, participating in youth preparedness initiatives and large-scale mass fatality response exercises.
In recognition of her leadership and service, Dr. Holka was nominated for the 2023 Macomb Foundation Athena Award. In 2024, she received both the Faculty Community Engagement Award and the Dean’s Excellence Faculty Award for Teaching and Service. As President-Elect of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) Michigan Chapter, the chapter received the prestigious DAISY Award for Advancing Health Equity at the NAHN 50th Anniversary Conference in July 2025.
Committed to mentoring the next generation of nurses, Dr. Holka advocates for hands-on learning, university-community partnerships, and inclusive public health education. Her work exemplifies the powerful connection between education, service, and advocacy in advancing nursing practice and community well-being.
